Strelets - The Duellists

En Garde! But I know something you don't know...

These two fine fellows are from Strelets Peter the Great set. I think they are fantastic figures and if I'm honest I probably bought the set on the strength of them and the other wonderful civilian figures included in it.

...I am not left handed!

These figures were painted by our local Hungarian, Kristian, and I think he did a wonderful job. I can't think of a wargaming use for these fellows, but I'm just glad to have them. They will be doing duty in the back of battlefields from 1650 to 1800.

But for the sheer joy of toy soldiers, they can't be beat.

  1. Very nice!
Two officers whose duel must be allowed to finish, thus forcing their army to hold the courtyard against all enemey attacks!

Perhaps a little duelling gamette at some point?? I know there are some 3 Musketeer rules around, maybe others?

    1. Maybe - though I find man to man games a bit flavourless with figures. You can't really put much fencing into it without turning it into an rpg.

  3. Very cool!

I have an ancient copy of En Garde someplace, an old rule set for role playing duellists and for playing out there inevitable disagreements over points of honour. Interested?

    1. I would Jim, but I know that I've proved relatively poor at keeping up with games that I'm involved in. I wouldnt want to let you down.

  5. Conrad,

Given the state of my own project, and the pace of Real Life, there is no way that I would take on another either! Sorry for my ambiguous message, I meant to say that if you are interested in the duelling rules and IF (a big if) I can put my hands on them, I would be pleased to email a copy to you. They date to the 80's I think and might be hard to find otherwise. I recall having had some fun with them but they aren't more than a bonbon before or after a real game.

  6. Thanks Jim, I have a set squirrelled away somewhere myself.

They are light and lend themselves to PBEM.

  7. That's uncanny, I just painted those two figures for another regular 20mm customer! And the French Horse Grenadiers I did three lots at the same time: yours, his, and some 15mm of my own!
