What's in a name?

My mother, the sainted Mrs Kinch Senior, has returned from Her summer tour of Vienna and Budapest with this fellow.  Closer inspection would seem to indicate that he is a Wing Commander and a recent addition to 266 Squadron, but he does appear to lack a name.

Any suggestions?

  1. I can't think of name but I bet he's an ace dog fighter :)

    1. There's been quite a few variations on Beagles. I like it.

  3. Something hyphenated. Definitely hyphenated. How about Wing Commander Reginald Woofington-Chew?

  4. A quick search shows 266 squadron was Rhodesian during WW2, so perhaps he's Wing Commander Ridgeback DFC ?

    1. Now Joppy, that is far, far too sensible a suggestion.

    1. Mrs Kinch just emitted a high pitched shriek of delight and started clapping.

      The Real Wing Commander Hound?

  7. First thought that comes to mind is Snoopy the flying ace. Or some play on Biggles (Wing Commander Beagles?). Probably the wrong breed of canine.

  8. What breed of dog is that? It occurred to me if he was any kind of shepherd, there's your name;
'Wing-Cdr "Shep" Sheppard'. Goes by the name call-sign as that of a certain D. Bader: 'Dogsbody'.

    1. He was far better off in uniform. Made a dog of him.

  12. Looks quite a bit likea modern incarnation of Anubis to me, not that you'd want to call him that.

  14. For some reason, I have been thinking - off and on, you understand; I would not be thought of as obsessive, or anything - about the personnel of 622 Squadron, known as the 'Dogfighter Squadron'. I think we can just about retain 'Shep' Sheppard's Wing Commander rank, but how about these fellows:

    Sqn/Ldr James Beaglesworth
    F/Lt Puggsley
    F/O Foxe
    F/O Staffordshire-Cross
    F/Sgt Whippett
    F/Sgt Barker
    F/Sgt Huskey
    F/O Poynter
    F/Sgt Huntaway
    F/Sgt Cocker
    F/Sgt Colley

    Cheers...
